In order to create conditions for the organization of passenger car building in the Republic of Belarus, by Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus dated 05.07.2011 No. 308 "On the transformation of the republican unitary enterprise", based on the decision of the constituent assembly (minutes of November 17, 2011 No. 1), by transforming the production republican unitary enterprise "Gomel Car Repair Plant named after. M.I. Kalinin" of the Belarusian Railways, in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Belarus on the privatization of state property, our enterprise was created.

Full official name - Closed Joint Stock Company "Gomel Carriage Works", abbreviated name - CJSC Gomel Shipyard.

Registered by the state institution "Administration of the free economic zone" Gomel-Raton "on November 28, 2011 in the Unified State Register of Legal Entities and Individual Entrepreneurs.

The main type of output produced by CJSC Gomelsky VSZ is depot, factory, overhaul and overhaul car repairs. Since 2008, the plant has begun to produce new cars, and in 2010 the repair of special self-propelled rolling stock (SSPS - DGKu railcars, MPT-4 locomotives) was mastered. The company repairs more than 150 types of cars for various purposes, including:

• four-axle passenger cars: reserved seat, compartment, soft, RIC, interregional;
• defectoscope cars: magnetic, ultrasonic, combined;
• track measuring cars: TsNII-2, TsNII-4MD, KVL;
• laboratories: flaw detection, weight measuring, fluorographic, metrological, automation and radio communications;
• stations: bridge test, tunnel survey, water pump, radio station, power station, etc.
• special-purpose cars: postal, baggage, postal-luggage, office, restaurants, pharmacies, clubs, special baggage, communications, diesel power plant, tours, etc.

The structure of the product range is presented as follows:

• restoration of wagons;
• wagon repair;
• manufacture of a new car body based on the old car frame;
• new formation of wheelsets;
• wheelset repair;
• additional and modernization work during the repair of wagons;
• <manufacture of new cars, model 61-779 version 2, using part of the components produced by PJSC "KVSZ";
• assembly of a laboratory car for automation and radio communications, a diesel power station car, a tour car based on a new body.
• Additional equipment of a combined flaw detector car and a track measuring car based on car model 61-4170 manufactured by Tver Carriage Works OJSC;
• repair of special self-propelled rolling stock (SSPS - DGKu railcars, motor locomotives MPT-4, MPT-6, etc.);
• production of a new SSPS - locomotives MPT-4;
• spare parts for rolling stock (brake shoes, wagon locks);
• consumer goods;
• public services;
• other products.

The enterprise has also mastered the production of 5,000 spare parts for rolling stock and industrial needs. Currently, cast iron products and steel products are produced (including more than 200 items are made by precision steel casting).

There are no separate subdivisions that are part of the company.
